Adult Services in the Refuge

If you are experiencing domestic abuse of any kind you don't need to suffer in silence. There is help available at Fortalice.

We can provide safe and secure accommodation in one of our 22 self-contained flats, four of which are adapted for women or children with disabilities. We accept women with or without children, including sons up to the age of seventeen. Anyone can make a referral to the refuge either a professional person on your behalf or you can contact us yourself.

Coming into the refuge may seem a daunting experience but let us put your mind at ease. The refuge is a bright modern building which is staffed 24 hours per day, 365 days of the year so there is always someone to talk to and reassure you if needed.

We can advise and assist you with emotional issues, housing needs, benefits claims and signpost you to any other agencies who also may be of help to you.

You will be welcomed by our one of our team of support workers who will assist you and show you to your flat where a small food parcel and toiletry bag will have been left ready for you to help you over the first day or two.

Letters from adults at Fort Alice
  • Nicholas’ poem

Lewis House has been my home for seven months now,
    I don‘t want to go,
even though i’ve got my house,
I love it here compared to before
when he glared at me as he blocked the door,
The staff are so helpful and always so kind,

  • Nicholas’ poem

look at all the things, I have to leave behind,
theres always a smile wheerver I go,
and someone to talk to when Im feeling low,
I remember exactly the day I came in,
I was just so glad to be away from him,
Val showed me to my flat and I couldnt believe my eyes,

  • Nicholas’ poem

it wasnt a dirty cold refuge it has a nice pleasant surprise,
it was clean and warm and all brand new,
so I would just like to say
    a huge thankyou,
to all who have helped and supported me,
now its time for me to leave

  • Nicholas’ poem
